The festivities start with a parade, then the cross takes on the crescent moon in a bloodless skirmish. The Moors get to wear the most outrageous costumes, but the Christians always win--sometimes it's close, though. Alcoi's parades and battles are marched and fought with split-second timing, and great Valencian music blends with fireworks and crowd noise to create a sensual cacophony that continues deep into the night.
